CES 2025: Alienware brings back the Area-51 lineup

If you’re a bit older in the gaming scene then you likely remember the Area-51 lineup of desktops and laptops that took the industry by storm just a few years ago. Dell is here at CES 2025 to bring the lineup back in both laptop and desktop form factor. Lets break down the desktop first.

The Area-51 desktop is making a bold entrance to retake the throne as the flagship desktop in the Alienware lineup. Alienware says this PC is returning to its roots for die-hard gamers and enthusiasts who appreciate technology and enjoy customizing PCs to their specific needs.

The size is 80L tower with headroom for more than 600 watts of total graphics power and 280 wats of cup power. The Area-51 supports the highest performing Intel CPUs up to the Core Ultra 9 285K. Industry standard components with a scalable design make it easy to upgrade and swap components as needed.

Alienware engineers went to work to keep the system both efficient and coolwith a positive pressure design. Using different fan sizes to pull air inward from outside and gaskets on the inside to prevent leakage, they created a positive pressure that expels heat outside the rear of the case—that’s right, no exhaust fans. This concept reduces air recirculation and maximizes flow rate.

By combining larger fans and advanced liquid cooling the positive pressure design moves 25 percent more air helping the system run 13 percent cooler and 45 percent quieter under load.

Upgrading is easy as well, users will find QR codes inside the device directing them to videos and upgrade paths for the desired components. Gamers will find the knob on the back of the case an easy entry and a spacious interior once inside. The optional Alienware Elite Care customer support is available 24/7 to support accidental damage, and onsite service keeps your battle station running smoothly.

These will be available later in Q1 with select configurations. Additional options, including an entry-level configuration, will be available later. The launch configuration, with the next-generation Nvidia GPU, is $4,499.

Alienware Area-51 laptops

The Area-51 laptops are also back in both the 18 inch and 16 inch models with a focus on pure power and performance. Like its desktop sibling the Area-51 laptops have an expression of maximum performance and cater to gamers who seek maximum performance.

The Area-51 unleashes 280 watts of power with next generation Nvidia GPU options and the next generation Intel processors. A new thermal system enables up to 35 percent more airflow through the system, producing a 15 percent more quiet design

The New Liquid Teal finish gives the system a dark iridescent look flanked by anodized aluminum. The translucent thermal shelf on the rear is illuminated with AlienFx lighting zones and new startup sounds. The Gorilla Glass window on the underside of the laptop lets you see the inner workings, highlighting the RGB fans. A zero hinge designer leads to cleaner lines.

The Area-51 laptop lineup hits the ground running with power and performance with a total power ceiling of 175W graphics power and 105 watt CPU profile leaves plenty of room for the Core Ultra 9 275HX cpu.

You’ve got to keep such a high performing device cool, Alienware engineers have designed a more advanced Cyrotek thermal design to manage airflow and fan speed. This produces up to a 37 percent more airflow design that is 15 percent quieter.

Select configurations will be available first in Q1. An entry-level configuration and other graphics options will be available later. Pricing is TBA.
