Amazon is closing the Android Appstore

Amazon appears to be getting out of the Appstore circles. According to a social media post, Amazon informed developers that the Appstore will close on August 20th, 2025, or in about six months. Amazon is telling developers that starting today, they can no longer submit apps to Android devices via the Amazon Store.

If you have an existing app, you can submit updates until August 20th, 2025. Amazon.jp customers will no longer be able to make in-app purchases from the Amazon Appstore using Android devices. It looks like Amazon might be out of the third party Appstore business. Last year Amazon announced it was discontinuing it’s Windows support as well.

Just so you know, this doesn’t seem to impact anything in the Amazon ecosystem, so your Alexa-enabled devices will continue as expected.
