Another smaller Windows 11 moment update is coming later this month

According to new reporting from Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, Microsoft is preparing to release another “moment” update for Windows 11. This will be the fifth one of this nature, appropriately called “Moment 5,” and also known as the “February 2024 Moment.” You can expect it to bring some smaller new features to the OS by the end of this month.

A lot of these features in this Moment 5 update have been in testing with Windows Insiders, so it’s going to bring nothing too groundbreaking. Mainly, the focus of the update is to help Windows 11 meet the Digital Markets Act requirements. There are still some other things, though. You can expect to see things like the option to disable news in Widgets, ink into text boxes with a pen, and rename your PC for nearby sharing. Other highlights include the option to launch Copilot undocked, and improvements to Snap Layouts where the feature will show icons for your opened apps. Some inbox apps also will get updated, including Notepad. Those who are hard of vision should also be happy to know that this update will bring enhancements to Voice Access, which will support multiple monitors and a new voice shortcuts feature.

Microsoft is aiming for a February 27 launch date for the Moment 5 update, and it might soon be finalized. You’ll be able to download this update just as you did with previous ones, as long as you’re running Windows 11 23H2. It’ll be like a monthly security update, available in Windows Update, first as an optional preview update, and then coming as a mandatory update for everyone else on Patch Tuesday in March of April 2024.

Beyond the Moment 5 update, there’s a lot left to look forward to, including Windows 11 24H2, which Microsoft already had some documentation about.
