Apple users get a new Air Tag

With an update a bit more than a refresh, the new Apple AirTag is here. The tracker has been a mainstay to help users find and keep track of those items that can become challenging to locate, TV remotes, car keys, bike locks, etc, those things we need often. Air Tags use the Find My Network, a powerful Apple-powered peer-to-peer network, to help users recover the items they’ve tagged.

At the heart of the second-generation Air Tag sits Apple’s Ultra Wideband Chip, the same one powering the new iPhone 17 and the Apple Watch Series 11. The new chip unlocks 50 percent more range for a more precise location finder. Using Haptic and Visual feedback, you’ll get directional guidance. Expanded Bluetooth range to help find those items further away. Precision Finding on the Apple Watch Series 9/Ultra 2 or later for the first time.

Apple has also redesigned the internal speaker to be 50 percent louder than the previous generation. Making something tucked away or in a noisy environment much easier to find. While the Apple Find My network remains a most impressive feature using millions of devices securely to find your device, the technology is being added to Share Item Location, a feature used in real-world recovery situations like wrongly delivered luggage or travel gear.

You can securely share your Air Tag information with third parties, as over 50 airlines support the technology. Shared access expires after seven days or when the item is recovered. A major upgrade from the first generation. Apple continues to remind users that Air Tag technology uses Rotating Bluetooth Identifiers and cross-platform alerts to prevent unwanted tracking, with no location data stored on the device. Apple cannot see or help locate Air Tags.

The new Air Tags are available today at the same price as the first generation: $29.00 for a single and $99 for a four-pack. They are available starting today.
