Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 comes later this year

In what is being called the franchise’s darkest era yet, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. The launch does drop previous generation consoles but picks up the Nintendo Switch 2 this year, alongside the expected PlayStation, Xbox, and PC launches. Activision and Infinity Ward label the franchise as a dramatic escalation of the Modern Warfare saga.

Modern Warfare 4 opens with a full-scale invasion of South Korea by North Korea. Players plunge into a brutal ground through the eyes of Private Park, a young soldier experiencing combat for the first time. What begins as a routine patrol will eventually turn into a case and a full-scale invasion, setting the stage for a desperate battle across a collapsing city. Meanwhile, half a world away, Captain Price has gone rogue, operating outside of the official channels on a personal mission that turns into a global crisis. His weapons and off-the-record actions lead him to consequences that can no longer be ignored.

The campaign spans through trench warfare in Korea, Close combat in New York, high-speed chases through Paris, and SAS night raids through Mumbai. The multiplayer is built around a grounded, responsive approach with major upgrades to movement and visibility. Key improvements include a rebuilt recoil engine, cleaner enemy visibility, and the removal of Bloom entirely.

You’ll start with 12 core maps, funfight maps, and big war maps. The standout addition this year is Kill Block, a modular training facility that reconfigures itself between rounds with more than 500 options. DMZ returns and evolves into a living combat arena. Every element is unpredictable, and objectives will change dynamically.

It’s a new game built for new hardware. Modern Warfare 4 is built for high fidelity lighting and effects, real-time ray tracing, and DLSS 4.5 support. Beginning with Season 1, Warzone will absorb the Modern Warfare 4 content. You can preorder now.
