CES 2025: Asus looks to push gaming potential

Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) has unveiled groundbreaking technology in its CES lineup for “Those Who Dare.” Their words, not ours. This year, we have cutting-edge laptops, desktops, and external GPUs for gamers to dive into.

Headlining the lineup is the 2025 ROG Strix SCAR, which comes in 16-inch and 18-inch variants. Both models feature next-generation Intel Core Ultra 9 processors and up to a Nividia 5090 GPU. The Strix G16/18 comes equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 processors or the Intel variant, so gamers have a choice there.

Flanking the popular G-14 and G-16 this year is a new 2025 Flow Z13 a 2-in-1 gaming tablet powered by up the AMD Ryzen AI MAX + 395 rocking a ROG Nebula Display. The G700 desktops close out the lineup featuring both AMD and Intel processors and up to a 5090 Nvidia GPU.

ROG Strix SCAR 16/18 unleashes the ultimate in gaming power, equipped with the Core Ultra 9 27HX processor and up to a 5090 GPU with MUX switch powered by Nvidia Optimus to handle the most demanding gaming titles and workflows with ease. The custom vapor chamber and sandwiched heat sink with Tri-Fan Technology keep the heat low and the gaming intensity up, and lowers noise levels to 45dB.

The ROG Nebula HDR display is a 2.5K min-led panel with over 2,000 dimming zones pushing a brightness of up to 1200 nits at 240hz. This is augmented by Ambient Contrast Ratio (ACR) to reduce reflections and increase contrasts. With up to 64GB of DDR5 ram and 2TB of PCIe Gen-4 storage the Strix Scar 16/18 is ready and equipped for any battle.

The ROG Strix G16/G18 is the younger sibling of the ROG Strix SCAR lineup but doesn’t cut down on gaming performance. These models come with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and still rock the Intel Core Ultra HX series processors or the Ryzen 9 from AMD if that’s your flavor. The Tri Fan technology comes down to this model with full-width heatsinks. The ROG Nebula 2.5 display with 240hz refresh rate is here as well Dolby Atmos speakers and a 1080P webcam means you’re sharing your gameplay as crisp as possible. The Intel models support PCIe Gen 5 storage while the AMD models are generation 4.

The G14/G16 lineups are the smaller and more portable offerings, but that doesn’t mean they skimp out on power and performance. These models have CNC-milled aluminum chassis to maintain lightweight and durability. The G14 is a Copilot+ PC, coming in at just 4.30 pounds and a maximum thickness of 0.62 inches. With USB C 100-watt power delivery, both the G14 and G16 are ready for any task.

If a 2-in-1 is what you need the 13 inch ROG Flow Z13 is the answer. Combining portability and power this compact tablet features the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395, one of the newest chipset designs to perform cool under pressure. With unified memory up to 128GB’s the CPU and GPU work dynamically under load.

Cooling is supported by a revamped stainless steel vapor chamber and second-generation Arc Flow fans, all powered by the new ROG command center for quick access to common functions. The 2025 ROG XG Mobile graphics card comes in handy with the Z13, featuring Thunderbolt 5 and a 5090 GPU. The redesigned vapor chamber and inverted fan outlet reduce weight by 30 percent and maintain their thermal structure.

Flanked with connectivity an HDMI 2.1 port, Display Port 2.1 port and dual USB 3.2 ports and an SD card reader make for a powerful docking solution.

The G700 desktop series hasn’t been left out of the upgrades. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Intel Core Ultra 9 285K paired with the Nvidia 50 Series GPUs keep the frames pumping, with up to 64GB of RAM and PCIe Gen 5 storage for the most demanding tasks. Featuring both air and liquid-cooled configurations a toolless entry panel offer easy upgrade options.

Laptops will be available in February 2025, and TBA on the rest of the lineup.
