Today might be a good day if you’re a content creator and recently picked up one of the new Microsoft Copilot laptops powered by the Snapdragon X Elite Processor. Blackmagic Design has announced that the latest version of its popular video editing software is out of beta and ready for primetime.
Normally the latest version of video editing software might not deserve such big headlines, but DaVinci Resolve 19 is one of the first fully featured video editors to run native on the new Snapdragon X Elite Processor. It’s available in free and paid versions. DaVinci Resolve has the jump on its main competitor, Adobe, who just recently released its video editor, Adobe Premiere for ARM, with a catch: it’s not native. It only runs in the Windows Emulation on ARM, so it is not as efficient as a native ARM app.
Don’t worry—you can also get the newest version on AMD and Intel platforms. And there’s a free version there as well. If you opt to pay the $295. for DaVinci Resolve Studio, you do get a bit more features and not a subscription model like its counterparts, though the free version does handle most everyday needs.
While the adoption of Windows on ARM might be a little slow for some, if you’re a content creator, Blackmagic just gave you a good reason to give Microsoft’s new efficient platform a go.
