Deep Research is being removed from Copilot: What you need to know

Microsoft has decided to retire the Deep Research feature in the Copilot App for consumers on August 18th, 2026. Deep Research will no longer be available. Users may notice a shift in how deep research tools appear, but the ability to review deep research isn’t going away- it’s simply moving.

Microsoft 365 Premium Subcribers will continue to have access to Researcher, a feature in Copilot designed for creating structured, detailed reports and analysis. Researcher and Deep Researcher are separate experiences, but Researcher will cover the same cases when Deep Researcher is retired.

Your Deep Research content won’t be deleted. Microsoft 365 Premium Subscribers can still access your Previous Data through Researcher. For those on the personal and family plan, your Deep Research content remains available through Copilot Chat History. No action is required before August 18th. Premium Subscribers will automatically transition to Researcher, while Personal and Family Subscribers will maintain access to their data through chat history. You can save important data through an export to Microsoft Word.
