AI is growing more expensive by the day, and as it becomes more capable and more integrated into daily activities, it’s easy to run up a big bill without realizing it. Sometimes it’s challenging to tell what constitutes a resource usage, when you’ve hit your limits, and when you might be paying extra.
Google is rolling out Prepay Billing for its Gemini API and AI Studio users. A major upgrade to make pricing more predictable, transparent, and accessible to monitor your Gemini API usage. The feature is now available in the U.S. Google Cloud Billing Accounts, with a global expansion expected soon.
Prepay billing lets developers purchase API credits upfront when setting up and linking a billing account, rather than waiting for the monthly invoice. You can enable auto reload, top up your balance, and build and test your project against your prepaid account. Manage everything inside AI Studio. Google’s goal is to make Gemini API usage more predictable and developer-friendly, giving teams a simple way to manage cost while prototyping and building products. Prepay billing is not available for invoiced or offline accounts.
