Shifting from cloud service providers is about to get easier for Google Drive users as Google Workspace expands support for its migration tool that will move OneDrive data to Google Drive up to 100 users at a time.
As part of an update announcement Google announced that it’s been working at providing a lifeboat for former OneDriver users who are now part of Google Workspace. Google’s expanded data migration tool is now releasing an open beta of an improved version of the feature that will boost the number of users admins can move over at a time.
Under the umbrella of our data migration services, we’re introducing a new file migration service for Admins to transfer files between OneDrive data to Google Drive for up to 100 users at a time. Available directly under the Admin console, super admins can now migrate all your files and folders, as well as their corresponding access permissions with shared members.
In addition to the update announcement, Google also walks admins through process of migration that includes:
- First, connect to the Microsoft OneDrive account you want to transfer files from
- Next, set the migration scope by identifying the email addresses of Microsoft OneDrive users that you wish to migrate.
- Finally, create an identity map to connect users on the source account to users on the target account.

For any admins interested in getting started with their company’s migration Google clarifies that the beta testing is open to basically everyone. Admins in charge of Business, Enterprise, Education, Essentials, Nonprofits and all upgrade and essential plans associated with each tier.
For more discerning admins, Google plans to roll out a release version of the expanded migration tool by early November.
