Google Search is getting smarter with AI Mode

AI continues to reinvent the way we search for things online. Google implemented Ai into its search results early on so that you always get an AI Overview of what it thinks the answers are before your organic search results below. Today Google has announced that AI result is getting an upgrade with Gemini 2.0 for AI Overviews.

The goal is for AI to provide higher-quality results and to be able to show AI results for more complex queries, such as math or coding questions. Teens can now access the AI Overview search results without signing in. Alongside Ai Overviews google is introducing AI Mode. This mode allows more advanced reasoning in the AI overview result. You can ask Gemini anything that might be on your mind, go deeper with follow up questions and get helpful weblinks.

Google says what makes this experience unique is that it brings together the advanced AI model alongside Google’s wealth of information systems. Of course, the ability to access the result right from your search makes things easier as well.

So if you ask, “what’s the difference in sleep tracking features between a smart ring, smartwatch and tracking mat,” the custom version of Gemini 2.0 uses a multistep approach to make a plan, conduct searches to find information and adjust the plan based on what it finds.

If you want to know more, you can ask a follow up question, like “what happens to your heart rate during deep sleep” to quickly get an easy-to-digest response with links to relevant content.

It looks like Google and Microsoft might be about to compete on this one. Google has AI Mode, while Microsoft has Deep Think Mode. Which one do you like best?
