Meta joins a crowded AI space with standalone app

Meta has decided it’s tired of watching stand-alone apps get all the AI love, so today, it launched its new AI app built on Llama 4. Meta says this is a more personal AI-driven experience. You’ll be able to engage the model across the entire Meta stack, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

The standalone app highlights voice, which is the preferred way to interact, allowing seamless conversations, including editing and image generation. Meta AI personalizes its logic by remembering user preferences and interactions across the Meta platform. The voice model offers full duplex speech to make conversations feel more lifelike though not available yet for web access.

At launch, the app will only be available in select regions, including the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Meta AI integrates with the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, allowing users to interact directly from the lenses. The web version has been optimized for larger screens and includes better image generation and document editing capabilities.

Users have full control of the experience with the ability to toggle voice communications and personalization options.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.
