I’ve had Microsoft 365 for as many years as their has been a subscription, and this is the first time I’ve heard mention of the Microsoft 365 VPN, much less it being free. Nevertheless, Microsoft has announced the VPN service that came with a Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscription will be going away of February 28th via this note on the support website.
Our goal is to ensure you, and your family remain safer online. We routinely evaluate the usage and effectiveness of our features. As such, we are removing the privacy protection feature and will invest in new areas that will better align to customer needs.
The feature was part of Microsoft Defender, which would hide your IP address, as most VPNs do. The service did come with a limit of 50GB of traffic. It’s worth noting that this comes just after Microsoft increased the prices of the Microsoft 365 Consumer Editions a few weeks ago. Microsoft justified the price increase with the addition of Copilot.
