Microsoft and Meta are working together on Xbox inspired headset

Despite rumors of Apple’s Vision Pro production being drastically cut, Meta is moving forward with its VR plan in what it calls a “New Era for Mixed Reality. Meta is opening up the platform operating system that powers its Meta Quest devices to third-party hardware makers, giving consumers more choice.

The new ecosystem is called Meta Horizon OS, combining core technologies of today’s VR headsets but allowing other vendors to craft their ideas and products. Meta says its new operating system results from a decade of work. Companies like Lenovo and Asus are leaning on their experience from products in the past and are already working on building new experiences.

Xbox and Meta have already worked together to bring a beta of Xbox Cloud Gaming into the 2D space last year. The two companies are working on a limited edition of Meta Quest inspired by Xbox. These partnerships leverage the long collaboration of Meta and Snapdragon to power their new products.
