Microsoft is increasing Game Pass pricing and adding a new subscription tier

We all knew that the odds of a price increase went up with the Activision Blizzard merger; after all, a 60+ billion dollar purchase has to be paid for, and eventually, that purchase trickles down to the end user. According to the Xbox Support Site, PC Game Pass subscribers will see a two-dollar increase from $9.99 to $11.99. New Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will see a three-dollar increase from $16.99 to $19.99.

If paid with a yearly subscription, those who use Game Pass Core will see an annual increase from $59.99 to $74.99. Also, starting July 10th, the Xbox Game Pass for Console is going away for new subscribers. Current subscribers can maintain the subscription as long as it doesn’t lapse. Remember that if you upgrade your subscription, you won’t be able to return to the Console plan. For new subscribers these price increases start July 10th, for existing Game Pass subscribers the increase goes into effect September 12th.

You’ll also have a new subscription tier coming later this year called Xbox Game Pass Standard, which will be $14.99 per month. This plan will not include day-one releases or the Xbox Cloud streaming service. For now, cloud gaming is reserved for the Game Pass Ultimate plan.
