Microsoft Mesh, a cloud-based Microsoft platform for mixed reality experiences and immersive workspaces, is dropping its preview state today after three years. This means Mesh is now officially being integrated into Teams, for a wider audience. You can leverage Mesh to bring your Teams meetings to life beyond your webcam and have a more fun experience with your colleagues in virtual reality or on your PC.
Available as an add-on for Teams business plans, Mesh should allow for deeper connections in Teams. On PC, you’ll be able to create a 3D avatar of yourself to use in 3D immersive spaces, and even enjoy spatial audio, just like you’re in the same room with your colleagues. The same also applies to Meta Quest, where you can bring your avatar and these spaces to life. All environments are customizable, and you’ll be able to add games should you want.
Several of Microsoft’s partners are using Mesh. Mercy Ships, BP, Accenture, and Takeda are just some examples. If you’re eligible and your IT admin has enabled Mesh in Tams, you’ll see it in the View menu as an “immersive space (3D)” option.
