Microsoft has begun rolling out an updated Copilot on Windows app (version 1.25082.132.0 and higher) to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels, bringing two major improvements to Copilot + PCs: semantic file search and a redesigned homepage.
With semantic file search now available on Copilot + PCs, you can find documents, images, and other files using natural-language prompts instead of exact filenames or keywords. “Semantic file search, available on Copilot + PCs, is a smarter and faster way to find your files using natural language,” the Windows Insider team explains. You might type “find images of bridges at sunset on my PC,” “find my CV,” or even “find the file with the chicken tostada recipe” and instantly locate what you need. Permissions for Copilot’s file access are fully customizable under Copilot Settings → Permission settings, so you remain in control of your data.
Alongside smarter search, the Copilot on Windows app debuts a new, personalized homepage that surfaces your recent apps, files, and conversations right when you open Copilot. The update “brings your recent apps, files, and conversations into Copilot and at your fingertips.” Click a recent app under the “get guided help with your apps” section to launch a Vision session that walks you through the interface, or select a file from the left pane to upload it into the Copilot chat—then ask Copilot to summarize text, identify objects in an image, or brainstorm ideas directly from that document or photo.

This latest update underscores Microsoft’s steady march of AI-driven enhancements across the Copilot + PC platform. Following features like on-device inference for Recall, improved Windows Search, and Vision-powered assistance, semantic file search, and the new homepage continue to blur the line between your thoughts and your workflow—making Copilot an even more integral part of the Windows experience, for better or for worse.
