Microsoft Edge users who like to fiddle with the browsers UI via the power-user friendly Flags platform will need to find a new way to present fully rounded tabs in the user interface going forward.
A Microsoft Edge Insider spotted a new tag associated with the #edge-visual-rejuv-rounded-tabs flag that alerts users to the UI element being discontinued in the near future.
“This feature will be discontinued soon.”
Last year, Microsoft introduced the fully rounded corner UI elements along with shifting the home profile icon to the opposite of the browsers interface, additional capabilities for PWAs, support for Payment Request APIs, purchase history tab, and an improved container framework for better multitasking between webpages.
While the current public release that’s generally available to all Edge users utilizes aspects of rounded design, the fully rounded tab UI that’ll be discontinued at some point leveraged a floating pill-shaped design that separated the tab from the web page completely and allows Edge to look more unique and less like a Google Chrome clone.
Unfortunately, Microsoft never committed fully to the distinct visual change and buried the ability for users to leverage the design in the power-user flags platform that required a bit of navigational-know-how to implement.
Nevertheless, Microsoft Edge engineers are done contributing resources to maintaining the look and will be removing it as an optional UI element. However, users can manually re-engage with fully rounded tabs by forcing the UI through the same flags platform following the same steps previously utilized in the flags platform.

- Type edge://flags/ in the URL bar and press enter.
- Search for the #edge-visual-rejuv-rounded-tabs flag and set it to Enabled.
- enable rounded tabs in edge
- Relaunch the browser to apply the setting.
- If the tab design doesn’t change, navigate to the Appearance settings and enable the “Try the new look and feel of Microsoft Edge” option.
- enable new features in edge
- Restart Edge once more.
