Microsoft has been under fire for its product bundling tactics over the past year. Some regulating bodies don’t like buying a complete Office Suite to buy one application from the bundle. Microsoft separated Teams from Office in Europe to address regulation concerns, but now they want to make the separation global.
According to a Reuters report, Microsoft Teams will be sold separately from the other Office 365 bundle products. For those who don’t know, Microsoft Teams is a chat, meeting, and audio/visual component of the Office 365 suite.
“To ensure clarity for our customers, we are extending the steps we took last year to unbundle Teams from M365 and O365 in the European Economic Area and Switzerland to customers globally,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
Starting today, customers can continue with their subscriptions or switch to the unbundled offering. Teams Standard will cost $5.25/month, while bundled options range from $7.75 to $54.75.
