Microsoft Tests a New OneDrive UI on macOS That Leans Into Liquid Glass

Microsoft is giving OneDrive on macOS a fresh coat of paint, and this time it is not just a light touch-up. The company is testing a redesigned Activity Center and new Mac native dialogs that bring OneDrive closer to the visual language of macOS 26. If you have been waiting for OneDrive to feel more at home on the Mac, this update is a meaningful step in that direction.

For years, Microsoft has said it wants OneDrive on macOS to feel fast, reliable, and truly native. The team has been quietly rebuilding parts of the experience behind the scenes, and now those changes are finally surfacing for Insiders.

A New Activity Center Built for the Mac

The biggest change is the all-new Activity Center. This is the small window that appears when you click the OneDrive icon in the menu bar. Microsoft describes it as a Mac-first experience that embraces the visual design of the platform, including support for Liquid Glass on macOS 26 and beyond.

The interface is noticeably snappier and built entirely in SwiftUI. It starts simple, showing only the essentials, and lets you dig deeper when you need more detail. The design also supports VoiceOver and Full Keyboard Access, which makes the experience more accessible than before.

Your recent file changes are still just a click away, but now they appear in a more compact and easier-to-understand layout. Images and videos even show thumbnails when available, which makes it much easier to identify what changed at a glance. If something goes wrong, errors and alerts surface with a single click.

Microsoft says the new Activity Center looks and works great on any version of macOS where OneDrive runs, but it clearly shines on macOS 26 with its Liquid Glass effects.

Mac Native Dialogs for a More Consistent Feel

OneDrive’s task dialogs are also getting a makeover. These are the prompts you see when you delete a file for the first time or when OneDrive needs to explain how a feature works. They now use native Mac controls, which gives them the familiar look and feel of macOS 26. It is a small change, but it helps OneDrive blend in more naturally with the rest of the system.

Rolling Out to Insiders Now

The new experience is rolling out to OneDrive Insiders starting today with build 26.017. Once it becomes available, OneDrive will update automatically in the background. Microsoft is encouraging users to share feedback through the Send Feedback option in the Activity Center.

This update feels like a thoughtful step toward making OneDrive feel less like a cross-platform transplant and more like a true macOS citizen. If Microsoft continues down this path, the Mac version of OneDrive might finally match the polish and personality of the platform it lives on.
