While most of the tech journalism sector has moved on to reporting on the new Surface Pro 10, Microsoft just dropped a significant firmware update for its Surface Pro 8 device that sorts out Wi-Fi connectivity, Slim Pen auto-pairing, camera performance and more.
According to the changelog for the July firmware update issued by Microsoft this week, users should see a notably sized firmware update for devices running OS versions of Windows 10 October 2022, version 22H2 or higher.
The improvements and fixes included in the latest firmware update include:
- Improves Wi-Fi connectivity and addresses concerns regarding Bluetooth pairing when device is on standby.
- Improves interoperability with the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock by resolving issues that were preventing the system from detecting audio devices.
- Enables auto-pairing of the Slim pen and improves auto binding to provide a seamless workflow.
- Improves device security by updating certificate processes for better protection and easier authentication.
- Addresses an issue affecting the camera’s performance caused by insufficient memory or storage capacity.
As a side note, for anyone looking to upgrade but have held for specific reasons, “Firmware updates can’t be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version,” as well as your current device getting jettisoned into the future by collecting all previous Surface firmware updates in the process.
