MSI to swap Intel for AMD in its newest handheld

Computex 2025 is in full swing, and Gamersradar.com is reporting that MSI is making a surprising change to their new model of the MSI Claw A8 BX2EM. The original MSI Claw models were powered by Intel chipsets. This new model has switched to the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme.

The new Claw will be available in a white or interesting lime color, with slight design differences to likely accommodate the new APU unit. Inside, you’ll be getting 24 gigs of LPDDR5 RAM a 1TB SSD, and a 120hz screen—a pair of two-watt speakers and two Thunderbolt ports that also double as USB-C ports. The unit is powered by Windows 11; there is no SteamOS here.

If you prefer the current model, then you’re in luck. MSI has also announced the Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest. This model features a white shell with a UV coating for added visual appeal. It also includes a 2TB drive, compared to the 1TB in the AMD model. So, MSI is not entirely abandoning Intel here; it’s just not included in its most powerful model. No pricing yet on these, but given the current economic climate, prepare for some wallet shock.
