OneNote test new inking features with latest Insider preview

The OneNote team is rolling out some new inking experiences that include two new digital pens and updated icons for a refreshed pen look and feel for the notetaking app.

Announced in a new Microsoft 365 Insider blog, the OneNote team unveiled its latest inking additions to the platform with Fountain Pen and Brush Pen. The new Fountain Pen experience offers a finer level of detailing when inking that includes “thinner and detailed lettering” when using a supported pen.

Fountain Pen allows you to make thinner lines and detail lettering. You can use speed and pressure to control the thickness of your writing.

The other pen added to OneNote is the Brush Pen which improves the thickness rendered based on the stroke direction.

Users can also test out a refreshed look when it comes to the icons used in the Pen support panel. While it’s not drastic change, the OneNote team is hoping users find the look and feel a bit more coherent and in line with the icon package throughout the rest of Microsoft’s productivity suite.

Again, these new additions aren’t for everyone as they are being testing among Microsoft 365 Insiders at the moment. If you happen to be a part of the sophisticated early adopters, look for version 18011.2000 or later to load up the new OneNote pen additions and refreshed icons.
