Microsoft’s Surface division has lost another veteran. After 17 years of service, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Design for Windows and Devices has announced his retirement. Groene is most remembered for his contributions to Surface tablets and for wanting the design language to stay consistent across the entire Microsoft ecosystem, both hardware and software, to ensure a cohesive experience.
Groene’s retirement comes just weeks after Microsoft announced the Surface and Windows teams were being combined again under new leadership. While Groene didn’t offer any information about what’s next for him, he will always be remembered for his design contributions to the Surface PC lineup.
