Sonos is expanding its portable lineup once again, this time it’s bringing back a name familiar to Sonos fans—brand-new purpose, same name: the Sonos Play. Sonos Play is the company’s most versatile speaker to date, designed to deliver rich stereo sound and that bass thump in a compact adventure-ready form factor.
The portable speaker lineup was first launched in 2019. Since its launch, Sonos has introduced various speakers for your needs. The Move 2 came in with room-filling stereo and a long-lasting battery. The Roam 2 came for its ultra-portable, take-anywhere listening. Sonos Play hits the sweet spot between the two: small enough to travel, strong enough to fill a room, and rugged enough for outdoor adventures.
The internals for the Sonos Play are inspired by the larger Move 2. Expect deep, room-filling bass and a wide stereo sound field, both indoors and outdoors. The Sonos Play also includes automatic Trueplay tuning, which analyses the surroundings and adjusts your EQ on the fly for the best possible listening experience. Don’t let the compact size fool you; battery life comes in at 24 hours on a single charge.
Sonos thought of it all and included a versatile multifunction USB-C port. Use the port to charge your speaker, reverse-charge your phone, or connect a line to a turntable. At home, the Sonos Play joins your existing Wi-Fi speaker setup; on the go, switch to Bluetooth and keep the tunes rocking. The IP67 rating keeps the speaker dustproof and waterproof; don’t worry about the elements slowing you down.
For the first time on Sonos, you can group multiple portable speakers without Wi-Fi. The Sonos Play hits the market at $299 and shows shipping on March 31st on the Sonos website.
