Tech Titans Unite: MediaTek and NVIDIA’s New AI Superchip

In a significant announcement at CES 2025, MediaTek revealed its collaboration with NVIDIA on the design of the NVIDIA GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip for NVIDIA Project DIGITS, a personal AI supercomputer. This partnership marks a pivotal moment in the tech industry, combining the strengths of two leading companies to create a market-leading platform.

MediaTek, the reigning champ of chip suppliers for smartphones, smart TVs, Arm-based Chromebooks, Android tablets, and voice assistant devices (VAD), has been on a roll lately as its chipsets are being tapped to power several partnered efforts in AI, connectivity, and multimedia experiences and other Arm-based system-on-a-chip (SoC) devices. With this collaboration, MediaTek is flexing its tech muscles to deliver a platform that’s both powerful and efficient.

Rick Tsai, Vice Chairman and CEO of MediaTek, couldn’t contain his excitement: “Our collaboration with NVIDIA on the GB10 Superchip aligns with MediaTek’s vision of helping make great technology accessible to anyone. Along with NVIDIA, we are working to usher in a new era of innovation and make AI ubiquitous.”

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, chimed in with his own enthusiasm: “The age of AI is here. The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading CPU performance and power efficiency with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technologies will drive the next wave of innovation. Project DIGITS, with the new GB10 Superchip designed with MediaTek, makes our most powerful Grace Blackwell platform more accessible – placing it in the hands of developers, researchers, and students to solve the most pressing issues of our time.”

This isn’t the first rodeo for MediaTek and NVIDIA. Their previous collaborations include integrating NVIDIA’s next-gen GPU-accelerated AI computing and NVIDIA RTX graphics into MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto Cockpit chips. MediaTek has also integrated NVIDIA TAO, an AI model training and optimization toolkit, with its NeuroPilot SDK to deliver advanced edge AI capabilities to IoT applications.

MediaTek’s vision of AI everywhere is becoming a reality, with advanced AI capabilities across its portfolio. This includes the Dimensity portfolio for smartphones and tablets, Genio family for IoT devices, Pentonic series for smart TVs, Kompanio line for Arm-based Chromebooks, and the Dimensity Auto platform for vehicles.

The collaboration between MediaTek and NVIDIA on the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip for Project DIGITS is a game-changer that could significantly impact competitors like Qualcomm, Samsung, and Intel.

By combining MediaTek’s expertise in mobile SoCs with NVIDIA’s AI capabilities, this partnership aims to deliver advanced and efficient AI solutions, challenging Qualcomm’s dominance in the mobile AI space. Samsung may feel the pressure in both the semiconductor and consumer electronics markets, while Intel could face increased competition in the CPU and AI computing sectors.

We’ll see if this collaboration pushes these industry giants to innovate and adapt to maintain their market positions.
