Test Drive returns to give fans an alternative to Forza

Racing sim enthusiasts on the Xbox platform will finally be given another option other than Forza and F1 with the return of Test Drive: Unlimited Solar Crown.

French gaming studio Kylotonn SARL is partnering up with another Paris based publisher in Nacon to bring back Test Drive to the Xbox after a thirteen-year absence from the platform.

While Forza has incorporated several open-world aspects of gaming into its franchises as well as dynamic weather, Test Drive revolutionized the concepts back in 2006 and 2011 with Test Drive 2 when it first brought a 1:1 recreation of the Oahu Island of Hawaii to drivers to explore at their own reconnaissance as well as dynamic weather to Ibiza. Now, thirteen years later, Test Drive is looking to incorporate all the teething racing games have gone through and offer more than just nostalgia with Unlimited Solar Crown, a game that will showcase a massive multiplayer online open world racing experience.

Test Drive is now being marketed as the “ultimate lifestyle and racing adventure” game, and I wonder if there will be character creation aspects as well as Grand Theft Auto-like jobs or tasks to be offered in this iteration.

This time around, racer will get to explore the island of Hong Kong in another 1:1 recreation that’s bright with neon-lit cityscapes, drift ways, mountain ranges, beaches, and off-roading opportunities.

Rediscover the iconic elements that made Test Drive Unlimited iconic in Solar Crown. While exploring a vast open world, shopping in real dealerships, putting your own touch on your vehicles and avatar via extensive customization options and competing against players across the world. Just like the original games, these features can be enjoyed solo or with other players. The open world, dealerships, garages, races, and clan HQs are all interconnected social hubs, where players meet through their avatars and cars.

Test Drive: Unlimited Solar Crown is set to launch on September 12, 2024, on both Xbox Series X|S consoles with pre-orders available now.
