The Copilot Gaming Sidekick Rolls Out in Beta to Xbox Insiders

Microsoft is rolling out a new gaming companion for Xbox Insiders: the Gaming Copilot (Beta). This new feature, integrated into the Xbox Game Bar for Windows PC, is designed to act as a “gaming sidekick” to help players overcome challenges and get back to the action faster.

The Gaming Copilot is an AI-powered tool that provides assistance to players right in the middle of their game. Instead of having to pause and search the web for solutions, players can now get help directly from the Copilot. The goal is to make gameplay smoother and more enjoyable by providing personalized, in-the-moment support. A key new feature is Voice Mode, which allows you to talk to the Copilot for help, so you don’t have to break away from gameplay. The Copilot can also use a screenshot of your active game to provide more relevant and helpful advice.

This beta test is especially significant in light of Microsoft’s upcoming collaboration with Asus. The new Gaming Copilot features, particularly the limited functionality on Windows handhelds, are a precursor to the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. These new devices, launching this holiday season, will boot directly into a new Xbox operating system rather than Windows and are being designed to provide a dedicated, console-like gaming experience on the go. The work being done on the Copilot feature, along with the feedback gathered from Insiders, will be crucial in ensuring it’s a seamless and valuable part of the experience on these new handheld gaming devices.

How to Access the Beta

To try out the beta, you need to be an Xbox Insider and have the Xbox PC app installed. You can open the Game Bar by pressing the Windows logo key + G, then find and open the Gaming Copilot widget from the Home Bar. Log in to your Xbox account, and you’re ready to go. The initial preview is available in English for Insiders aged 18 and older in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Singapore.

Microsoft stresses that feedback from the Xbox Insider community will be crucial in shaping the future of this feature, so your input can help make the Gaming Copilot even better. This beta is also available on Windows handhelds with limited functionality.
