Multiple outlets are indicating that the FTC is looking into allegations concerning antitrust violations relating to cloud computing, AI, software licensing, and cybersecurity. Microsoft’s business practices in relation to their competition is certainly under the microscope.
The FTC has been conducting interviews with Microsoft’s competition for over a year and presented the company with hundreds of pages of detailed demands dating back to the Microsoft infostructure hack of 2023, and the CrowdStrike incident earlier this year. It is believed Microsoft’s software bundling tactics have violated antitrust laws due to its bundling of Office 365 products and cloud computing components. There’s also concern that the recent investments into Open AI were done in such a way to avoid any regulatory oversight.
It’s not the first time these issues have been brought to attention, we’ll have to see what actions if any get taken against Microsoft. Microsoft nor the FTC have commented as of yet.
