Taking snips of your screen in Windows 11 is about to get a bit more fun. As spotted by PhantomOcean3 on X, the platform now formerly known as Twitter, Microsoft appears to be working on an option to add shapes to any screenshot that you capture when using the Snipping Tool.
Though Microsoft has yet to acknowledge this, the feature is pretty much hidden in Snipping Tool version 11.2312.33.0 but needs some tinkering to get working. We’re unsure of when, but you can expect Microsoft to announce it soon, perhaps with a new Windows Insider build. Until then, the preview above gives us a good look at what you can expect. After capturing a screenshot with the Snipping Tool, simply click the Shapes icon in the menu bar, then choose from square, circle, arrow, and line and apply it to your screenshot. You’ll even have the option to select a fill color and change the outline.
This is yet another nifty feature. Thanks to it, you’ll be able to avoid using Paint, or another third-party app if you want to mark up your screenshot for sharing. It’s one of the latest features Microsoft has added to the Snipping Tool. Optical Image recognition is one, and a shortcut to screen recording is another.

I just love how people are still referring to X as “formerly known as Twitter”. It’s still not sticking!
