Time to move on from legacy Outlook, Microsoft says

As reported in September 2023, Microsoft is now implementing the retirement plan for legacy Outlook. Starting in the middle of this month, legacy Outlook clients will be retired. This change will impact all platforms, including IOS, Android, Windows and Mac. Beginning in August, outdated browsers will receive a warning message when using Outlook on the web and must update to continue receiving emails and support.

Starting mid-July, those with vanity domains and the Outlook versions below will experience diminished features.

  • Outlook for iOS versions before 4.2411,
  • Outlook for Android versions before 4.2342,
  • Outlook for Mac versions older than 16.73
  • Windows Mail and Calendar applications

Users are encouraged to switch to the new Outlook for Windows, update their apps, or switch to Outlook on the web. Starting in mid-August for Outlook, on the web ID, you are using an old browser you will be prompted to update to continue services. For Outlook, IOS, Android, Mac, and Windows customers, the new app rollout will begin in July 2024 and be completed by September 2024. Outlook on the web will be a bit more gradual, with updates beginning in August 2024 and completing in October 2024.

Remember that older versions won’t be supported once the new version rolls out.
