Xbox Insiders are getting to test out a new Xbox experience: ad-supported game streaming. This service is allowing players to stream select games they already own for free. Advertisements are shown before each session. The trial begins today and offers one-hour play sessions across supported devices and regions.
The early test gives more people a way to play games they already own without the additional cost. Ads appear only before gameplay and do not interrupt the experience during gameplay. For many, this opens the door to gaming on devices they already have, including Xbox One owners who can stream newer Xbox X|S titles without being forced to upgrade hardware. Gamers can also enjoy gaming in regions where console hardware is harder to obtain.
Advertising has always been in gaming, and Microsoft says they put gamers first; ads must create value, not interrupt gaming, have clear labeling, in platform-appropriate formats. The goal is for gaming to be more affordable and accessible.
