We recently saw a Windows update to Windows 11 version 24H2 that hinted that if you didn’t want the upcoming Windows Recall feature, you might have the option to uninstall it. For those wondering, Recall was supposed to be the signature feature of the Copilot Plus PCs, taking snapshots of your PC periodically and allowing you to search/retrieve or “Recall” data and events on your PC using AI.
Just before release the feature was hit with several security concerns prompting Microsoft to delay it so the new Copilot PCs launched without what was being called their signature feature. The devices have proven successful without the feature and as of now Microsoft plans to resume testing in October. Many have reported, including us that the new Recall feature would now be a user choice.
According to The Verge, a Microsoft representative reached out and said Microsoft is working on a fix that makes Recall appear as an optional feature in Windows 11. It’s a bug, and your option to uninstall Recall looks to have been removed.
Microsoft had this to say to The Verge.
“We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel,” says Windows senior product manager Brandon LeBlanc in a statement to The Verge. “This will be fixed in an upcoming update.”
How does this change your mind about Windows Recall and Copilot PCs?
