YouTube Expands its Premium Lite Offering

I have to say, I didn’t know YouTube Premium Lite was even a thing other than something being tested last year. It appears as though some regions may not have access to it. Nevertheless, for those who do have access, YouTube has heard your wishes and is making improvements to the subscription.

This update brings two of the most requested features to the service so far: Background Play and Offline Downloads. It’s a sign YouTube is listening and does listen to its users, as these upgrades are two of the most significant to date.

Starting today and rolling out over the next few weeks, where YouTube Premium Lite is available, users will gain access to ad-free viewing on most videos, background play, allowing videos to continue to play while using other apps, and offline downloads so users can save videos and watch them when the internet isn’t available.

Last year, the Premium Lite subscription was offered in more markets, and user feedback was collected. One message remained constant uers wanted more experiences to equal the Premium Plan. Today was the chance for YouTube to acknowledge the feedback.

However, there are still some key differences between Lite and Premium. Lite is ad-free on most videos, whereas Premium is ad-free on all content. YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium with full offline and background support. Premium members also get the experimental features first.
