YouTube starts rolling out new player

If you thought YouTube needed a new player, well, today might be the day to look forward to. YouTube says this new player packs several features and visual updates, and is designed to provide users with a cleaner, more immersive experience.

Google believes its YouTube service should feel as vibrant and dynamic as the creators who use it. The new look is said to be a combination of energy and vibrant creativity. These changes hope to make your experience more enjoyable and obscure less content, whether you’re viewing on your phone, a tablet, PC, or television.

The improved seek feature makes your content easier to find. With just a double-tap, you can quickly find what you’re looking for. For mobile users, you’ll notice a smoother transition between tabs thanks to an improved motion design. On specific videos, the like button will get a makeover as well, with a custom visual treatment based on the content you are viewing. For example, if you’re viewing music, the like button may be a musical note.

Saving your videos to watch later or to a playlist gets a bit easier; the new design lets you pick a playlist and save your content more easily. Talking with your friends about your favorite content gets a little easier, too. Comment threading makes for easier conversation, and a structured comment reply system helps provide a custom, focused reading experience.

Starting the week of October 13th, users will begin to see these new features roll out.
