ZeniMax Workers are on strike due to remote work policies

The Verge reports that members of ZeniMax Workers United-CWA, one of the largest video game unions in the United States, have gone on strike. This includes the offices in Texas and Maryland, where quality assurance is done on popular titles such as Fallout and Elder Scrolls.Workers claim that ZeniMax leadership must properly address employee concerns over remote work and outsourcing policies.

The ZeniMax Workers United was first formed in January 2023 and is composed of about 300 Quality Assurance workers. Remote work policies were instituted during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Microsoft began pushing back on those policies in October of this year, asking workers to return to the office. Activision Quality Assurance United held a rally outside of their US-based offices earlier this year, claiming that Microsoft had failed to accommodate workers with medical conditions and doctor recommendations.

The Communications Workers of America, known as the CWA, is the committee that supports ZeniMax. It has filed an unfair labor complaint with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming workers are being contracted out without any notifications to the union. According to The Verge, workers are said to be striking until 6 PM today.
